Would any dystopia be complete without being told just what everything should and should not mean? Don’t answer that. Instead, just read–if you know what’s good for you.
City, the
The City was never designated a name due to the fact that there is only one city. Its approximate distance is one hundred square miles. It was built in a perfect grid pattern, each block a perfect mirror in size. The center of the city (five square miles) has larger buildings to house corporations and government facilities. The remaining buildings house smaller businesses and/or the normal and Evolutionary Variant population.
Deep Underground, the
The Deep Underground is the remnants of a city that was abandoned by the ancestors of the people from the City. Rumor has it rampant biological decay of the people and neglect to the buildings themselves led the Genetics Council to order the city sealed off under a quarter-mile of concrete and steel. It lay abandoned for over a century then the Genetics Council determined it would be the perfect location to send proles–those who were unable to conform to societal expectations. Along with the proles, the Council sent all Transitional Evolutionary Variants (Transies) to reside in the Deep. Any entrances to the Deep are guarded by Enforcers.
Descendants
The descendants of the original Genetics Council which was started 200 years before the current time line. They are the blue bloods, the aristocracy of society in the City. They rule the City by simple right of birth. The Genetics Council will replace members from time to time, but only with another Descendant. All Descenents possess telekinetic powers of some form.
Enforcers
Enforcers are cyborgs that are employed by the Genetics Council to maintain peace in the City and to prevent those banished to the Deep from gaining access to the City. There are two types of Enforcers. Normals and Descendants that under-go cybernetic enhancements in order to serve as Enforcers and clones which are created and then cyberneticly altered.
Normals
The term used by Transitional Evolutionary Variants (Transies) to describe the normal people living in the City with no genetic modification and no telekinetic powers.
Proles
The term used to describe any human living in the Deep Underground who is not a Transitional Evolutionary Variant (Transie). They possess no special abilities. Some are former Normals from the City who have been exiled to the Deep for not conforming to the rules and regulations of the Genetics Council. The remainder were born in the Deep and have no hope of going anywhere.
Transies
A derogatory name used by people form the City to describe the Transitional Evolutionary Variant humans who reside in the Deep Underground. The Transies themselves use the name unflinchingly. Transies possess telekinetic powers and in all cases have some physical genetic mutation that makes them look different from Normal humans. There is some speculation that Transies are genetic mutations of Descendants. Others speculate they are the result of genetic experiments on Descendants and Normals that have gone awry.
